Topic: Global Leadership and the Challenges of Diversity

Facilitators: Harrison Snow
 
Mr. Snow designs and facilitates programs in team building, strategic planning and leadership development. He uses a variety of approaches to build strong, mutually supportive teams including leadership training, executive coaching, action, strategic planning and change management facilitation. He began his organizational development practice in 1988 and has been conducting team building and leadership development programs in 25 countries for Fortune 500 clients and public organizations such as the, World Bank Group, Inter-American Development Bank, the U.S. Department of State and the Agency for International Development. For the past five years, he has led an organizational constellation, special interest group in exploring systemic issues around managing change. Harrison also conducts both in house and open enrollment train-the-facilitator programs for new and experienced facilitators. He has written three well-received books on team building for facilitators and managers. Mr. Snow has an MBA from the Thunderbird School of Global Management.

Program Description: 
 
Washington DC has a number of international organizations that bring together a mix of educated nations from most of the approximately 193 countries in the world. These organizations are often the designated headquarters for an extensive number of field offices located in South America, Africa, the Middle East, Eastern Europe and Asia. One of the challenges of the global leader is persuading the diverse individuals at HQs or in the field into becoming a united and coherent team. The tendencies of “we versus they” perceptions are often at odds with the building of a shared identity that supports the collaborative team effort.  During this session, we will review a model that looks systemically at organizational behavior and then use the model to explore the issues of global leadership. Participants who are dealing with a leadership challenge that has an international aspect will have the opportunity to gain insights related to their challenge and identify actionable solutions.
