Topic: OD as Leadership Development: Possibilities for Innovating Practice

Program Details:
Leader development and leadership development are very different efforts. And the difference is more than semantic.  The first is oriented toward the individual and is typically event-driven (training, coaching, mentoring) in an attempt to instill skills and behaviors. The latter works at the systems level through more dynamic, ongoing processes of development (consultation, facilitation, group and enterprise intervention), aimed at shifting culture and context and creating collective action.  It is an important distinction and it’s useful to take a “both/and” approach to implementing each type of development.

OD professionals offer something unique to the design & delivery of leadership development – techniques for cultivating leadership as an organizational capability, as an integrated, collective resource of the organizational culture.

Join us for a vibrant conversation to

- Discuss the importance and value of expanding leadership development in this way
  •  What are the connections between LD and OD?
  •  How do we support our clients in appreciating the distinction?
  •  What are some possibilities for partnership or cross-disciplinary work in this domain?

- Explore new possibilities for broadening and deepening your OD practice
- Identify strategies and tools for developing the shared capacity for leadership at the team and organizational level
