Becoming More Brave in Our Work as Change Agents

Virtual

Being an effective change agent requires bravery. The bravery to challenge deeply imbedded and, often unconscious, world views. The bravery to listen without internalizing, reacting or taking sides. The bravery to speak out when there’s injustice, even when the system rewards silence.

While ‘use of self’ is a key in impactful OD consulting and coaching work, fear often limits our ability to fully access and use ourselves. The anecdote to that fear is Learned Bravery.  The research on human development makes clear that bravery is a skill that can be learned and developed with practice.

In this session, we will develop greater clarity on the areas where we want or need more bravery. Then we will create action plan for learning and developing bravery. Everyone will come out of the session with action steps toward greater bravery in our professional and personal lives.

Presenter  Jackie Bsharah:

Dr. Jackie Bsharah is a strengths-based, goals-oriented Organization Development consultant and executive coach who takes an individualized approach to helping her clients reach, and often exceed, their goals. Jackie has been called “a game changer” by her clients for her ability to simultaneously support individual and systems-level change. Her strengths-based approach motivates her clients to identify and better internalize the elements that are aligned with their overall visions. As a scholar-practitioner, Jackie uses well-researched and validated theories, models, and processes to help her clients develop practical, concrete steps for greater success. She is particularly proficient at creating brave spaces for difficult conversations.

In addition to her work as a consultant and coach, Jackie is an adjunct professor at Georgetown where she teaches courses on developing greater diversity, equity and inclusion both in the Institute for Transformational Leadership and the School of Continuing Studies. She also is an adjunct professor at USC where she designs and teaches virtual courses on managing change.
