"Managing Ethical Dilemmas as OD Practitioners"

Presenters: Mark Sachs and Stephan Dix

Program Description: As OD practitioners we often find ourselves in work situations that present us with ethical dilemmas.  They can occur when trying to meet a client’s demands and constraints while addressing their organizational needs.  Dilemmas can also show up in action research projects when what we learn is different from what the client expects.  Finally, ethical dilemmas can show up just in the course of doing business, e.g. contracting.  So, how do we remain true to the profession and ourselves, serve the client, and still earn a living?

In this session you will be provided with actual case studies that OD professionals have faced. You will discuss what you would have done differently, and learn how the OD person managed them – or not.  You will have an opportunity to discuss dilemmas you or others in the room have experienced.  You will leave the session with learning and awareness that will help to navigate ethical dilemmas in the future.

Learning Objectives:

1. What is an ethical dilemma and how is it defined?
2. The kinds of issues that usually cause ethical dilemmas.
3. Tools to use to avoid ethical dilemmas.
