Topic: Your Practice Meets the Internet

Facilitator: Melissa George Kessler

Melissa George Kessler is an organization development consultant who uses both her process consultation skills and extensive background in advocacy-focused public relations to help clients discover and address core objectives at the staff, leadership and system levels.

In her independent practice, she works with colleague consultants, public relations firms and private and non-profit businesses on a wide range of OD- and communications-focused projects. Prior to beginning OD work full-time, Kessler served for eight years as the director of communications for a national advocacy organization, managing the non-profit's communications and organizational special projects. She has also worked as a reporter and editor.

Kessler holds a master's of science in organization development (MSOD) from American University and a bachelor's of political science degree from the University of Oklahoma. She is a a certified practitioner of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and EQi 2.0 instruments. Originally from Tulsa, Okla., Kessler now lives in Washington, D.C.
Program Description:  The Internet has revolutionized the way we relate as people and workers. While many OD organizations and individual practitioners are online, many are still trying to make sense of what these changes mean for maintaining and growing their businesses. Other practitioners need to know more about online communication to understand their clients’ challenges and opportunities, particularly in diverse or diffuse systems.
This session will help those totally uninterested in or intimidated by the online world begin to think about it holistically so they are comfortable engaging and give those who already have a good sense of what happens online a frame to be more intentional about their presence on the world wide web.
Specific areas covered will include: basic information about the impact of online and other modern communication vehicles; an overview of top social media tools; an individual assessment of current levels of online engagement; and a frame for how to develop a strategic online presence.
This workshop will be interactive - come planning to learn, share, and do some thinking whatever level of skill you have with online tools or whatever your emotions are about this way of interacting!
