Program Description

“Appreciative Intelligence and Innovation”

Innovation is the primary driver of success for nations and organizations. Countries with high innovation capabilities produce new services and products and lead the global economy. Cities with high creativity have become the engine for economic growth in many nations. Such innovation capabilities diffuse to the firm level as well creating organizations with high and low innovation capabilities in the same sector and geography. What accounts for their differences? In this workshop, international consultant, educator, and well-known author Tojo Thatchenkery will demonstrate that at the individual level, a newly identified intelligence called Appreciative Intelligence can contribute to innovation. Appreciative Intelligence is the ability to reframe a given situation to recognize the positive possibilities embedded in it but is not apparent to the untrained eye, and to act purposively to unfold the desired outcomes from the generative aspects of the current situation. A term coined by this speaker and the title of a book chosen by Harvard Business Review for its 2006 Reading List, Appreciative Intelligence is directly relevant for developing innovation, entrepreneurship, new businesses, and leadership. The workshop will demonstrate specific methods for identifying participants’ Appreciative Intelligence and developing it using existing resources in the organization.
