CBODN: Members - Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer Opportunities

When we ask CBODN members to volunteer on a committee or join the Leadership Team, the most frequent responses we hear are, “I don’t really know enough about OD,” or “I don’t know anything about marketing / membership / conferences.” The BEST part about volunteering with CBODN is…you don’t need to be an expert! Your client or your boss may expect some level of expertise out of you, but not us! We just appreciate your help, your time, your showing up. And as OD professionals, we are great at appreciating you!

Take a look at the opportunities, pick something that interests you, and send a note (or make a call) to the committee co-chair. We promise to get right back to you, and to appreciate the heck out of you!

  • Marketing and Communication Committee: This vibrant Committee is responsible for communicating the many CBODN programs and events, and responsible for positioning CBODN within the broader OD community. We are looking for volunteers to assist with critical aspects of the CBODN communication program: the Communiqué (monthly newsletter), interim reminder emails, web site rewrite and general marketing. To get involved, contact Communication Chairs Stacey Heath and Mary Cogan at communications@cbodn.org.

  • Programs Committee: Here’s a great opportunity to volunteer with your professional organization and work with your colleagues to create professional development and increase your network at the same time. As a committee member, you will work with other committee members to plan, identify, and coordinate professional development programs.  For further information, contact Programs Committee co-chair:

  • 2008 Annual Conference: We need you to sponsor and help advertise the benefits of the conference beyond our immediate network and also want volunteers to assist before, during and after the conference. Please contact conference chairs Stacey Guenther-Doten and Keith Earley at 2008conference@cbodn.org to get involved.

  • Membership Engagement and Feedback Committee: The Membership Committee is the community connection, both to individual members and to the OD business community. We find ways to increase the value of member benefits, and we think of fun ways to attract new members. To join the Membership Committee, or volunteer to help with a Membership Committee activity, contact Rob Creekmore at robcreekmore@cox.net or Gail Sprinkle at gailsprinkle@yahoo.com.

  • Career Resources: Career Resources helps members grow in the OD field, whether it be coaching or mentoring an individual for a specific skill, discussing experiences that will help individuals to broaden their expertise, or inviting someone to shadow a mentor on a portion of a project, experienced OD folks are needed to volunteer to help grow the next generation of OD consultants. Even a few years of experience is enough and can be valuable to someone new to the field. If interested, visit http://www.cbodn.org/members/mentors.html.

  • Special Interest Groups or SIGs: SIGs are an opportunity to build a community of people with similar interests, expand your network in a professional area, and grow your expertise. You can take part in several different ways, with different levels of commitment:

    • Start your own SIG - This could be an on-going professional or geographic area SIG, or a temporary SIG that explores a topic of interest and then disbands. You set the goals and mode of operating with other interested members. We can support you with information on best practices gleaned from experience, as well as ways to get the word out to CBODN members and others potentially interested. Ideas for new SIGs include Independent Consultants, Getting Experience in OD, Publishing, Strategic Planning, or anything you have energy around. You do not need to be an expert, just a good organizer!

    • Volunteer to help a SIG leader - If a SIG exists that interests you, contact the leader and volunteer. SIG leaders can often use help organizing meetings, finding a venue, getting speakers, tracking membership, preparing communications, posting to a web site, or facilitating when they can't be at a meeting.

    • Participate! - SIGs need active members to keep the momentum going. See the current SIG listings on this website. (Note: CBODN membership is not required for participation, though it is recommended.)

    • For more information or to discuss ideas, contact the CBODN SIG Co-Chairs: Neville Uhles at nuhles@erols.com or (917) 294-4328 and Beth Dumesco at beth.dumesco@lmco.com or (301) 240-7328.
