Topic: Building a Successful Diversity Initiative in a Diverse Environment

Presenter: Maria Robles Meier, Director of the Senate Diversity Initiative 

Maria Robles Meier is a Capitol Hill veteran with experience in both Senate and House Democratic Leadership.  She currently serves as a Senior Advisor to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and directs the Senate’s Diversity Initiative.  There, her focus is to increase diversity at all levels of staff in Senate Democratic offices.

Ms. Meier is the former Executive Director of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and has served as the Director of Outreach for the House Democratic Caucus and as an Associate Director of the US Senate Democratic Steering Committee. 

She has extensive campaign experience at the presidential, senatorial and congressional level in a range of capacities including communications, grassroots mobilization and strategic alliances. 

Ms. Meier has also worked at the local government level in California developing multilingual and multicultural communications programs for city services.  More recently, she was a principal in the Federal Affairs, California and Emerging Markets practice area with the Dewey Square Group, a national communications strategy and political outreach firm.  She is a co-founder of Latinovations, the firm’s Hispanic outreach division and the founder, writer and editor of a national political blog, “La Plaza".

National Journal included Meier on its “Hill People” list of influential Hill staffers, and she has been recognized and commended by Members of Congress for her “Outstanding Service to Community and Nation”.

Ms. Meier is a graduate of Stanford University and resides in Washington, D.C.

Mission:   To share best OD practices, trends and policies in the government and publicsectors through monthly SIG meetings for both internal and external consultants.
