Organizational Constellation CoP

Topic: Organizational Trauma

Description: The theme for our program this month is Organizational Trauma. Many of us have worked in or with organizations that seem to be difficult places. The symptoms of this difficulty include demoralized staff, high turnover, "we-they" conflicts between people, departments and management and staff, and/or poor performance.

We will take a systemic look at the causes behind these affects and search for potenial solutions that might mitigate them. One possible cause is collective trauma that becomes part of the organizational system.  While there are many methods to resolve personal trauma how do you address and heal collective trauma in an organizational setting?

One helpful resource is the book, Organizational Trauma and Healing, by Pat Vivian. According to Vivian, organizations that have a mission related to social justice, focusing on client groups that are oppressed in some manner, are more likely to suffer from organizational trauma.

As OD consultants we have seen other types of organizations affected by collective trauma that might have been instigated by factors such as layoffs, bad publicity, poor leadership, dysfunctional policies or acts of violence. How these disruptions, be they in the past or in current time, continue to affect the present, including the ability of the organization to thrive, will be part of our inquiry using systemic constellations.

Come be a part of a dynamic and transformative afternoon.
