Business ConsultantStewart Hickman

Stewart Hickman has provided organizational and management development services to non-profit and corporate clients for over twenty years, seeking to bring a holistic approach to helping organizations become more productive and satisfying places to work. He has consulted with and trained in over 40 client organizations in Asia, the Americas, Africa and Europe.

His current clients are in the fields of healthcare, education, utilities, advocacy and arts management. His broad background in HR, human resource development and management consulting has allowed him to work at all levels of an organization, helping clients take stock of where they are, envision future success, and put together plans of action to move forward.

He has developed and delivered residential management and leadership workshops; helped implement institute-wide customer service standards; coached department managers on goal setting, performance management best practices, and retention strategies; and worked with teams and departments to help make constructive use of differences. Prior to founding Hickman Consulting (April 2006), he was the Director of The Learning Network, at Georgetown University Hospital. Previous positions have included: Director of Human Resources for ASTD (American Society for Training and Development); Senior Organizational Development and Training Specialist at Johns Hopkins Hospital; Senior Consultant, Change Management Services, Andersen Consulting.

Mr. Hickman received his master’s degree in education/human resource development at The George Washington University; certification as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) from the HR Certification Institute; and bachelor’s degree in English from Earlham College. He has edited and written documents on hiring and retaining talent, managing performance, and on-boarding new staff.

In 1995 Stewart and his wife founded Class Acts Arts, a non-profit educational and community arts outreach organization providing culturally diverse arts programs and residencies with an emphasis on outreach to under-served populations. They live with their daughter, Molly, on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.
