SIG Description:
After a productive and vibrant discussion last month, we look forward to continuing to define and clarify the direction of our SIG. For a brief report on our June SIG meeting please see below. Our agenda this month will be as follows:

1. Clarify vision
2. Desires and challenges
3. Prioritize our topics/themes
4. Define a schedule for the SIG
5. Discuss potential participants and speakers

Please come prepared with your ideas!

Brief report on June meeting and next steps:
Who Attended:  26 diverse professionals and students with interest/experience in over 20 countries, and a desire to share and learn from each other about the critical intersections between Org Development (OD), International Development (ID), and Community Development (CD).

What We Accomplished:

- Presentation by SIG leaders on mission, focus, scope of group (see PPT slides)
- Brainstorm of interests/affiliations of the group
- Open space exercise to delve into five key theme areas at the intersection of OD, ID and CD
- Energy to continue and grow the group and make connections

Key Takeaways:

- Five key themes areas to further explore in monthly SIG meetings:

  • Sustainability
  • Multi-Culturalism/Inter-cultural Identity
  • Partnerships
  • Complexity Science/Knowledge Management
  • Power and Empowerment

- Importance of tapping into the wealth of knowledge "in the room" for presenters/facilitators
- Looking beyond the traditional infrastructure-focused definition of International Development to include a focus on Human Development, and a focus on multiple levels of system.
- Desire to stay aware of and openly discuss the dynamics in the group and in the SIG mission statement and definitions.

Who would benefit from attending:
OD practitioners, including both consultants and internals working with NGOs, multi-laterals, foundations and international and community development professionals, including policy analysts, NGO leaders, social entrepreneurs, subject matter experts, and capacity development specialists – all hoping to make connections, seek support for their work, share ideas, create synergies and improve the world in the process.
